INFORMATION ON INSECT PESTS OF MANGOES

1. MANGO HOPPERS

Technical Name Amrittodus atkinsoni, Idioscopus clypealis
Harmful Stage Both adults and Nymphs
Nature of Damage By sucking the cell sap from the inflorescence and tender shoots adults also by egg-laying.
Peak Activity Time March
Activity Period January to April
Control Measures (Dose per 100 LIT. of water) 1. Thiodan 35 Ee, 150-200 ml
2. Tamaron 60 EC, 150-200 ml.
3. Anthio 25 EC, 150-200 ml.
4. Karate 2.5 Ee, 150-200 ml.

 

2. MANGO THRIPS

Technical Name Rhipphoro thrips cruentatus, Thrips tabaci
Harmful Stage Both adults and Nymphs
Nature of Damage By sucking the cell sap from the leaves and ahodestroy the fruit.
Peak Activity Time June/July
Activity Period Throughout the year
Control Measures (Dose per 100 LIT. of water) 1. Systoate 40 EC 100-125 ml.
2. Perfekthion 40 EC, 100-125 ml.
3. Tamaron 60 Ee, 150-200 ml.

 

3. MANGO SHOOT BORER

Technical Name Chlumtia transversa
Harmful Stage Larvae
Nature of Damage Boring and feeching incide the stem of growing young shoots and rachis of inflorescence.
Peak Activity Time Aug/Sept
Activity Period February to March/Nov
Control Measures (Dose per 100 LIT. of water) 1. Thiodan 35 Ee, 200 ml.
2. Azofas 20/40 Ee, 150 ml.
3. Karate 2.5 Ee, 40-50 ml.

 

4. MANGO SCALES

Technical Name Aspidiotus destructor, Parlotoria Pegandei
Harmful Stage Crawlers and Females
Nature of Damage By sucking the sap from tender shoots, twigs, leaves & flowers. They also inject toxic substance into plant sap.
Peak Activity Time Autumn
Activity Period Throughout the year
Control Measures (Dose per 100 LIT. of water) 1. Hostathion 40 Ee, 100-150 ml.
2. Supracide 40 EC, 100-150 ml.

 

5. MANGO MEALY BUGS

Technical Name Drosicha stebingi
Harmful Stage Crawlers and Females
Nature of Damage On leaves, shoots and stems, they desap them and excrete honey dew like substance.
Peak Activity Time December. - May
Activity Period -
Control Measures (Dose per 100 LIT. of water) -do-

 

6. MANGO FRUIT FLY

Technical Name Dacus zonatus, D.dorsalis
Harmful Stage Maggots
Nature of Damage By feeding on fruit pulp
Peak Activity Time June
Activity Period April to October
Control Measures (Dose per 100 LIT. of water) 1. Anthio 25 EC, 150-200 ml.
2. Dipterex 85 SP, 250 g
3. Basudin 60 EC, 100-150 ml.
4. Karate 2.5 Ee, 40-50 ml.
5. Laser 2.5 EC 150-200 ml.
