LAHORE (December 26 2007): Pakistan Horticulture Development and Export Board (PHDEB) delegation will be visiting Poland and Germany in the last week of February 2008 in a bid to explore opportunities for export of Pakistani fruits especially `Kinnow` in both the markets.
`A delegation comprising officials from the Board and exporters of Kinnows will hold meetings with importers and distributors of fruits in Poland and participate in a fair in Germany during their week-long visit,` PHDEB Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Shamoon Sadiq told Business Recorder.
In first leg of the trip, PHDEB and exporters would stay in Poland for two days and visit different super and chain stores of that country to assess the market. This trip also includes visits to wholesale markets and meetings with big importers and distributors of fruits.
Purpose of the second leg of this trip is participation of the Pakistani companies and PHDEB in a fair in Germany called `Food logitica.` Shamoon said that the PHDEB had leased a stall in the fair where Kinnow and other fruit products of the country would be exhibited.
He said participation in this fair would provide an opportunity to Pakistani companies to get familiar with new technologies in this field. Participants in the fair include fresh fruit producers as well as allied industries ranging from packaging, seed, shelf-life enhancing techniques, etc.
He said that exporters from Pakistan would also have access to different standards such as Eurepgap and others to enable them to adapt and export to the world. He said such events provide the exporters an opportunity of interaction with buyers and importers too. Five Pakistani companies have shown interest in visiting these two countries with PHDEB team, Shamoon concluded.
