LAHORE (January 17 2008): Pakistan Horticulture Development and Export Board (PHDEB) is preparing a PC-I for setting up `floriculture common facility farms` in all four provinces.
`We have earlier planned to set up such a Common Facility Centre for the growers of flowers in Punjab and then replicate it in throther three provinces, but now under a new plan it would be carried out in all the four provinces simultaneously,` said PHDEB Chief Executive Officer Shamoon Sadiq while talking to Business Recorder, here on Wednesday.
Sadiq said the Board had planned this centre to enable farmers to grow export quality flowers on large scale. He hoped that the board would complete PC-I of this project within a month`s period and will forward it to Ministry of Commerce for approval, which will forward the same to the Planning Commission for the final approval.
Shamoon said that they were also working on another project to promote cultivation of `rose` by the farmers. `We were discussing the idea with some farmers in Faisalabad and other parts of the Punjab province. Rose has a lot of potential as it is used in perfumes and other products, therefore, it needed to grow at very large scale`, he added.
