Vegetables and agriculture products: strategy to enhance production prepared

SIALKOT (August 29 2008): Punjab government has prepared a multi-pronged strategy for enhancing production of vegetables and other agricultural products for ensuring the availability of sufficient quantity of fresh vegetables on inexpensive prices in the Punjab.

Official sources told Business Recorder here on Thursday that under the scheme 60,000 acres of government land including reviver banks and bela land would be leased out for cultivation purposes in the Punjab. Under the programme 12.50 acres would be leased out to each person including educated, landless and growers` who are owners of four acres land.

Apart from this, cold storage system would also be introduced for the preservation of vegetables in ten different cities while model Sabzi Mandi would also be developed at a cost of Rs 350 millions in the province and work on this project would soon be undertaken, sources added.
