AU: World record broken in banana snap competition

A far north Queenslander has given new meaning to `banana split` by unofficially breaking a world record for snapping the most ripe bananas in 60 seconds.

Mourilyan banana grower Graham Celledoni is believed to have beaten the Guiness World Record for snapping the most amount of bananas in a minute.

His 96 snapped bananas beat the previous record by two, but it`s still yet to be approved by the Guiness World Records, that has to happen in the coming weeks.

The world record attempt was part of the Australian Banana Packing Championships underway in Innisfail of Far North Queensland.

Mr Celledoni has a chance to refine his technique today ahead of another attempt to break the world record tonight.
